The Technology

LinerSCAN uses magnetometry to quantify the iron in used cylinder oil. Utilising ANALEX technology, the system exploits a fundamental physical effect; namely the change of inductance due to the presence of a magnetic material.
Analysing scavenge drain oil from each cylinder has been proven to give the operators an indication of relative changes of cylinder liner wear. On many occasions, the sensors have reported the very early onset of severe wear and other engine problems such as cat fines. LinerSCAN reports changes in iron levels caused by abrasive wear and even routine inspection! The system also highlights periods of increased physical or thermal stress.
LinerSCAN is not solely limited to the prevention of engine damage. Constant real-time monitoring is a vital tool in optimising lube oil feed rate. On any ship, the optimal feed rate is not fixed. It is dependent according to trade, load, running hours and other factors. During trials feed rate reductions of up to 40% were achieved using LinerSCAN.
No other system gives you this level of confidence in your real-time feed rate alterations.
- LinerSCAN utilises ANALEX technology from Kittiwake. Communications are highly capable - link to your ship management system by CAN, RS232, RS485 or WLAN.
- LinerSCAN takes the usage of oil analysis data a stage further than is possible with laboratory or test kit results, complete with a bespoke user-friendly software interface.
- LinerSCAN is fit and forget, virtually no training required for its use, it is quickly installed and provides immediate savings.
- LinerSCAN data can be accessed fleet wide via marine satellite services.
LinerSCAN Software
LinerSCAN software allows continuous on-screen monitoring of critical information using a bespoke graphical user interface.
An office based version of this software, called LinerSCAN View, is available for easy evaluation of data from remote or shore based locations. Data is easily exported from onboard and then imported into the LinerSCAN View software.
You can balance LinerSCAN results with simple testing of the TBN to provide data ensuring controlled corrosion and good liner condition. View the Kittiwake TBN DIGI Test Kit by clicking here
